It makes homemade Pop-Tarts, making it the best bakery in the world.
OK, maybe just the best bakery next to Selanne restaurant. As an extension of Teemu Selanne’s culinary empire, it’s not surprising that it’s called B8kery. The former hockey player wore #8.
Other than the Pop-Tarts, it’s a fairly modest bakery. Of course, purists will say it doesn’t come close to the site’s former bakery, Andree’s Patisserie, but at least there’s a replacement bakery for those who need their morning fiber.
The pastry chef is Rebekah Eastman, who has stints at Bourbon Steak and the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point.
In addition to the Pop-Tarts, which officially are called bang pies, there are regular but somewhat limited bakery staples: blueberry streusel muffins; cream croissants, some cookies, brownies and rolls.
There’s also avo toast, ham-and-cheese scones, and assorted biscuits.
A couple smoothies sounded interesting, but we didn’t try them because – have you heard? – they make homemade Pop-Tarts.
There’s a “Super 8” smoothie – again with the 8 – that has hemp and chia seeds, banana, berries, almond butter, and some other healthy stuff. Unfortunately, the smoothies don’t cost $8. They’re $14!
You can also buy Selanne’s swag, including his book, “My Life.”
But we would recommend you start with the bang pies. Next time we’re going for cinnamon.
