A film festival can be tough – like trying to see the Louvre in one day. It’s pretty much impossible but you do your best.
With about 80 films over five days – including lectures, music, art, dancing, food and drinks – the Coast Film & Music Festival in Laguna Beach, from Nov. 8- 12, was a bit like the Louvre West.
It’s a good problem to have.
We enjoyed Friday’s ocean and surf theme events, including the photography awards. The special event honored the late photo editor of Surfing magazine, Larry “Flame” Moore. Photographers came from all over the world to showcase their work.
With lots of plaid shirts, beanies and tales of adventure, it was just a fun, informative evening.
There was also a cool Student Film Showcase on Saturday, which featured short documentary films created by middle and high school students from Orange County.
Music for the event, held at the Festival of Arts, included Kenny Aronoff + Friends with special guest The Alive, Common Sense, Matt Costa, Great North Special, Par Avion, a silent disco, along with local DJs.
With films and activities too numerous to name, the festival is probably one of Laguna’s most underrated events. Simply put, more people should mark it on their calendars. It’s truly a showcase like no other.
If you missed the event, there will be a curated selection of films online from Nov. 17-27. Details will be posted on the site, https://www.coastfilmfestival.com/.
