There will never be another cheap restaurant in Laguna Beach.
We said it.
In fact, we predict there will never be another reasonably priced, innovative restaurant in Laguna – ever.
It will only be gilded food porn to fleece the tourists. Too harsh? Consider that Laguna restaurants already:
Laguna has priced itself out of the market for decent, creative food – unlike nearly every other city in the Southland.
There are amazing, cheap tacos throughout Los Angeles. Mind-blowing Korean everywhere. International dishes that sing in any language.
Unpronounceable things. Scary things. Scary good things.
Here we have meatloaf and boring mounds of poke. Blandness. Badness. Disappointment. And nothing significant under $15 a sitting.
Do you know what the best food value is in Laguna Beach? The food truck that visits the day laborer site in the canyon. Try it sometime.
Hell, TLT in the Irvine Spectrum of all places is better than most of Laguna.
Is there good food in Laguna? Sure. But it’s not great at the price point. And boy, will you pay for it.
With some restaurant rents pushing $40,000 a month, maybe that’s what we get. A town destined for Santa Barbarism.
A town that has lost its appetite.
Stop food inflation. Bring in the trucks. Turn the alley between Ocean and Forest into a food bazaar.
Infuse culture into Laguna Beach cuisine. Take a risk. Savor the moment.
