Apparently Laguna Beach needs to be saved ... from nasty recliners in the canyon. Is it too late to ban political signs? We ban everything else.

Click-bait political signs

Maybe it’s naïve to think we should ban political signs.

But think about it. What good has ever come from a political sign? Are they educational or just divisive?

As we enter political season (again … sigh) the landscape will be littered with smarmy signs that have questionable messages.

For example, we’re already seeing, “Help Save Laguna.”

From what? I didn’t know Laguna needed saving.

You save someone who is drowning. You save someone from a burning car. Laguna doesn’t need saving. It needs common sense.

It needs rational people trying to solve specific issues. It doesn’t need dramatists hyping their perceived slights. Crying wolf will not “save Laguna.”

Whatever the political issue – or side you’re on – spare us the hyperbole, please.

It’s no wonder that the recent primary election resulted in a record low 23% voter turnout, according to the state. Final numbers are still being tallied, but it’s looking grim. Imagine an issue being decided by just one person out of four. For young voters, it’s even worse – roughly 10% voted.

Can you blame them? Politics now is a soul-sucking exercise, filled with hatred, lies and guns.

Even in Laguna, it’s apparently life or death: Help Save Laguna.

We need help all right but not this kind.
